According to the American Automobile
Association (AAA):
- Teenage drivers account for only 7% of the driving population
but are involved in 14% of the fatal crashes.
- Traffic crashes are the #1 cause of death and injury
for people ages 15 to 19.
- Problems which contribute to the high crash rate of
young drivers include: driving inexperience, lack of adequate
driving skills, risk taking, poor driving judgment and
decision making, alcohol consumption, and excessive driving
during high-risk hours (11 p.m. through 5 a.m.).
These facts aren't meant to scare you – but
to inform you of the risks involved with teenage driving.
It is because of these statistics that teenagers should learn
the rules of the road, and parents should be attentive and
supportive throughout the learning process.
